Snoop Dogg Explains why he Changes Name to "SNOOP LION"

Its official! Snoop Dogg whose real name is Calvin Broadus, Jr., has not only changed his name to "Snoop Lion" but also believes he's Bob Marley reincarnated and is embracing reggae instead of the culture of guns he once rapped about.

The 40-year-old artist said at a news conference on Monday in New York that he was 'born again' during a visit to Jamaica in February, and is ready to make music that his 'kids and grandparents can listen to.'

"I want to bury Snoop Dogg, and become Snoop Lion, I didn't know that until I went to the temple, where the High Priest asked me what my name was, and I said, 'Snoop Dogg.' And he looked me in my eyes and said, 'No more. You are the light; you are the lion.' From that moment on, it's like I had started to understand why I was there."

The former gangster rapper is releasing a reggae album called Reincarnated in the fall. 

Nice one Snoop Lion, but don't know when am going to get used to this new name tho!

Jay-Z is Executive Producing NBA 2K13 Video Game

Jay-Z already owns a stake in the Brooklyn Nets and now he is expanding his empire again, this time combining his love of basketball with 2K Sport’s popular video game franchise.

The rapper announced on Monday that he will serve as executive producer on the forthcoming NBA 2K13 video game, due out on Oct. 2. He also revealed a new trailer for the game on his Life + Times website, featuring narration from Michael Jordan and Jay-Z’s own song “Public Service Announcement.”

The 13th installment in 2K Sport’s series is currently available for pre-order and will be playable on PlayStation, Wii, Xbox 360 and more.

Rihanna and Drake Lead Nominations for 2012 MTV Video Music Awards

The superstars and frequent collaborators, earn five nominations including Video of the Year. Rihanna’s “We Found Love” will compete against Drake’s “Take Care,” for which she is a featured guest (MTV only gives the nomination to the lead artist in the category).

Drake’s wild Bar Mitzvah re-enactment in the video for “HYFR” garners him a nomination for Best Hip-Hop Video, while theRihanna-assisted “Take Care” picks up Best Male Video, Best Art Direction, and Best Cinematography.

Bank Driver Arrested with 19 ATM Cards and N652,000 Cash

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Dare Oladujoye, a driver with Zenith Bank, for allegedly being in possession of 19 Guaranty Trust Bank ATM cards and the sum of N652, 000 while using the cards to withdraw money from an ATM at Ogba branch of GTB.

The Commissioner of Police for the state police command, Mr. Umar Manko, said as of the time of his arrest, the suspect had withdrawn N652, 000 from the ATM. 

Manko said, “On July 26, 2012, around 8:30pm, there was a distress call that there was commotion at GTB, Ogba branch. On getting there, the suspect was seen with 19 ATM cards. He is an employee of Zenith Bank and we wondered what he was doing with the 19 cards. He was arrested and as of the time of his arrest, he had cashed N652, 000. The matter is under investigation.” The suspect however denied stealing the ATM cards. He said whenever he lent people money, he would collect their ATM cards as collateral and return them after payment.

EFCC Releases First Batch of Fuel Subsidy Fraudsters to be Prosecuted

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has concluded arrangements to prosecute the first batch of suspects implicated in the oil subsidy fraud. The suspects, comprising seven oil companies and 11 individuals, will be docked in Lagos courts.

The companies involved are: Nasaman Oil Services; Eternal Oil and Gas Plc; Ontario Oil & Gas Plc; Nadabo Energy Limited; Pacific Silver Line Limited, Axenergy Limited and Fago Petroleum and Gas Limited.

The 11 individuals involved in the scam are: Mamman Nasir Ali; Christian Taylor; Mahmud Tukur; Ochonogor Alex; Walter Wagbatsoma; Adaoha Ugo-Ngadi; Fakuade Babafemi Ebenezer; Ezekiel Olaleye Ejidele; Abubakar Ali Peters; Jude Agube Abalaka,  Abdulahi Alao and Oluwaseun Ogunbanbo.

Ezekiel Olaleye Ejidele is director of the accounting firm, Akintola Williams Deloitte while Fakuade Babafemi Ebenezer is a staff of the Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulating Agency, PPPRA.

Is Kanye West Planning on Proposing to Kim Kardashian?

So there's this news making rounds that once Kim finalizes her divorce from Kris Humphries, Kanye West will propose to the reality star with his late mother's ring.

Here's how Radar Online is reporting it;

The Gold Digger rapper is then planning to propose to the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star once her divorce from Kris Humphries is finalized.  

“Kanye picked out some of Donda’s most expensive pieces, including some diamond earrings and a ruby ring,” a source close to Kanye tells Radar. “He then gave them to a private jeweler friend to make Kim a one-of-a-kind engagement ring.  

“Donda was such an important person in Kanye’s life, he thought the world of her and was devastated when she died. So, he kept all her jewelry as keepsakes - a lot of the pieces were items he bought over the years after he made it as a hip-hop star.  “And now, Kanye has found a woman he respects and loves just as much as his mom, so he wants to share her jewelry collection with Kim.

Well am not surprised and if this turns out to be true, I wonder what Kim K will call this wedding since she already had her fairytale wedding.

The prolific actor acted in both English and Yoruba movies. One of his newest movies was “Dwelling in Bondage” which he starred alongside  Ini Edo, Mike Ezuruonye and others.

3,100 Corps Members Redeployed from Violence-Prone States

A total of 3,100 corps members have been redeployed from violence-prone Kano, Gombe and Plateau states as the 2012 Batch ‘B’ orientation camp closing ceremonies took place  across the country on Monday.

One thousand three hundred of the 2,560 corps members posted to Kano sought redeployment while no fewer than 1,000 of the 1,687 deployed in Gombe, and 802 of the 1,750 in Plateau were redeployed to other states.

Speaking in Kano, the state NYSC Coordinator Alhaji Salisu Yakasai, said the corps members insisted on redeployment, despite the heavy security presence in the camp during the three-week orientation programme.

The Coordinator of  the scheme in Plateau, Mr. Maram Mafulul, said in Jos the 802 that sought redeployment included married women, pregnant, nursing mothers and the sick.

Meanwhile, the State governor, Jonah Jang represented by the State Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Lohfa Bako assured the corps members that would stay back of government’s preparedness in conjunction with the military Special Task Force (STF) and other security agencies to ensure the safety of their lives and property throughout their service year is not taken for granted.

Nigeria Wins 4×400 Metres Gold Medal After 12 Years

After 12 years, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially re-awarded Nigeria with the gold medal in the 4×400 metres relay event of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

The Nigerian team which was made up of the late Sunday Bada and Jude Monye, Clement Chukwu as well as Enefiok Udo-Ubong were initially given the silver medal, but after a meeting of the IOC’s executive board, Nigeria was elevated as the winners with Jamaica taking silver and the Bahamas winning the bronze medal.

Nigeria takes the gold originally won by the United States, who has been disqualified owing to the late Antonio Pettigrew’s confession, to having taken performance enhancing drugs at the time of the games.

Pettigrew, who committed suicide in 2010, had been disqualified in 2008 from the 4x400m race in Sydney where the United States won gold with a team  which included Michael Johnson.

Mariah Carey Joins American Idol as New Judge

Mariah Carey will be joining "American Idol" as a judge next season replacing Jennifer Lopez. The official announcement was made by FOX on Monday. Mariah will make her debut on the 12th season of “Idol” in January 2013.

Its been reported that Mariah’s contract is worth $18 million for one year, which would make her the highest-paid judge in reality telvision. J.Lo reportedly earned $12 million for her first year on the show.

Five Nigerians Killed After Leaving the Arondizuogu Convention in New York

Five people were killed, including two children in Queens, New York early Sunday when their speeding SUV, swerving after blowing through two red lights, slammed into a concrete pillar, rolled over and burst into flames, police and witnesses said.

The victims had just left a party at the Golden Terrace banquet hall on Atlantic Ave. in Richmond Hill celebrating the conclusion of the two-day annual convention of immigrants from the Nigerian town of Arondizuogu.

The 45-year-old driver, whose name was not released but hails from the Bronx, was barreling east on Atlantic Ave. when she slammed into one of the pillars that support the AirTrain to Kennedy Airport.

Firefighters went to work extricating three victims with the Jaws of Life while simultaneously putting out the engine fire. They pulled two boys, ages 7 and 9, from the rear window of the burning SUV, but a 9-year-old boy died at the scene. An 8-year-old girl who was thrown from the vehicle was found dead on the ground about 10 feet from the SUV.

SSS Invites Pastor Bakare over his Sermon asking President Jonathan to Resign

Nigeria's State Security Service, SSS in Lagos has invited Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly and Convener of the Save Nigeria Group, Pastor Tunde Bakare to explain the content of his Sunday sermon asking President Goodluck Jonathan to resign from office.

Pastor Bakare was invited today to meet with the State director of the SSS at its  Shangisha office for 2pm after which he spent an hour and left.

The pastor and political activist yesterday delivered a damning sermon titled: "How To Change Government Peacefully And Make Society Better".

The Egun Community, which lives on the Lagos lagoon that is currently being demolished by the State Government, today trooped out to the Governor’s office at Alausa to protest their displacement and the demolition of their wooden shacks on the Makoko stilt.

Addressing the community, Governor Babatunde Fashola said that some individuals, whom he did not identify, are benefiting from the sufferings of the residents as they live on the water, and are receiving grants from international charities and funding bodies.

He told the age long water-float residents that occupants of the demolished areas on water are largely people from Cameroun, Republic of Benin and Togo. 

The Governor, after condoling with the Baale, Steven Ajih, over the killing by a policeman of his Assistant Timothy Azinpono two days ago, did not say what his administration is doing to bring the killer policeman to book, but he opened his doors to a conversation with the Baale on the boundaries of the demolition exercise on the waterfront.

Federal Government to Pay Pregnant Women N5000 for Antenatal

The Federal Government has concluded plans to pay women who attend antenatal clinics the sum of N5,000 as part of efforts to tackle the menace of maternal mortality.

The plan would be executed as part of the Midwifery Service Scheme (MSS) introduced in 2010.

The Director, Primary Health Care System Development with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Abdullahi Mohammed, disclosed the conclusion of payment plan in Abuja on Sunday.

According to him,  government budgeted N15 billion for Maternal and Child Health Care from the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P).

He added that part of the money would also be used to employ additional 2,000 midwives for the MSS.

Mohammed said the payment plan was designed to assist women to address the demand side constraints of maternal health.

Family and friends mourned the son of movie star Sylvester Stallone at a private funeral held at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Brentwood, Los Angeles on Saturday.

Hollywood star, Stallone who is said to be grief stricken by Sage’s death, released an emotional statement earlier this week, talking about his 'agonising' loss.

He said: 'When a parent loses a child there is no greater pain... This agonizing loss will be felt for the rest of our lives. Sage was our first child and the centre of our universe and I am humbly begging for all to have my son's memory in full left in peace.'

Sylvester's ex-wife and Sage's mother Sasha Czack, his current wife Jennifer Flavin, younger brother Frank and longtime friend and attorney Marty Singer were also in attendance at the funeral.
