Rapper, Drake Finally Graduates from High School, Gives Commencement Speech

After five months of hard work, Drake joined his fellow students at the commencement ceremony celebrating his graduation from high school. With diploma in hand, the Young Money rapper shared life lessons with his peers at Jarvis Collegiate Institute in Toronto.

“I still managed to fight this education system and tell myself that it wasn't for me,” said Drake, who dropped out of high school at 15.“I get why this institution is in place for each and every one of us.”

Drake worked with his teacher Kim Janzen over the summer to complete his studies. 

“What this is about today for all of you is the art of following through. That’s one of the most important life lessons that my uncle every taught me,” said the 26-year-old, whose uncle was in the audience. “I’m so proud of you because there are different ways to follow through, and tonight you followed through with a straight shot and for that, you should give yourself a round of applause.”

Despite his money and success, he still was missing something in his life. 

“I reached a point in my life where I realized there aren't material things that can give me the excitement that I’m looking for,” he shared. “There’s a void in my life that I need to fill and I need to sit and think long and hard what that was. It was the fact that I had left a gaping hole in my story of following through.”

Natina Reed of R&B Group Blaque Killed in Hit-And-Run

Natina Reed, member of 90′s R&B girl group Blaque, was killed in a hit-and-run accident as she walked across a street in Atlanta, GA, last night.

The 32 year old rose to fame as part of the Atlanta-based group Blaque in 1999 with the release of their debut single, “808″. She was the protege of the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes from TLC who signed the group to her production company, Left Eye Productions. 

She also starred in the film “Bring It On” alongside Gabrielle Union in 2000 and appeared in the 2003 film "Honey.".

She is survived by 10-year-old son Tren Brown and his father, rapper Kurupt.

So Dencia, even though you’ve had just a few singles released and are still fresh in the industry, you’ve had a fair share of media attention. For instance, I read in the news that you had a physical fight with your friend, Liz Garvy at an event in Lagos sometime last year? Is this true and what led to it?
The whole media wahala came from a bitter ex friend who went around trying to lie and defame my character after everything I did for her. God will pay her 7D. Then came other little things here and there that I didn’t address or talk about because I am the type of person who stays focused, I don’t let cheap talks distract me, my eyes are on the price. Also I was the new kid on the block, the media was doing what they do best so I really wasn’t worried as I knew that came with what I signed up for.

Also, there have been speculations that you have undergone a breast enhancement surgery. Is this true?
I don’t want to talk about it.

I understand your inhibitions but your silence would only trigger more speculations and comments.
I don’t need people to concentrate on those things that aren’t important. Whatever they wanna say is OK. They can comment but I have decided that I’m not talking about irrelevant things. Whether I address it or not, people will talk so I’d rather not.

You are one of the few African artistes who had their Twitter accounts verified recently. What do you think made you earn this?
Twitter verifies people they think deserve verification and have worked hard somehow to earn the recognition. I was amazed at people’s reactions. 90% of them didn’t know me and still don’t know. They don’t know what I’ve done in the industry back in America that gave me the pass but honestly it wasn’t a big deal. I knew some how I’ll get verified from the first day I joined Twitter. I actually hoped it was sooner.

Actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde Honoured as BEFFTA Film Icon

The multiple award-winning actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has been recognised with a special honorary award BEFFTA FILM ICON for her contribution to film industry in Africa, Europe and globally.  BEFFTA (Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts) awards is Europe’s biggest award ceremony celebrating achievements of black and ethnic personalities in showbiz globally. 

The Nollywood mega star who has appeared in over 300 hundred movies since starting her career at the tender age of 17 is popularly known for playing lead roles with films that smash the box office. Her recent films include Last Fight To Abuja, Amina, Ties That Bind and Ije.

Omotola is a World Food Programme ambassador and Amnesty international activists. The generous actress is a role model who gives back to the youth through her own charity Omotola Youth Empowerment Programme(OYEP).

BEFFTA founder Pauline Long praised Omotola’s great talent and commended her for being a mentor to the young ones aspiring to get into the film industry.

The prestigious 4th annual BEFFTA awards UK is taking place on 27th October in London.

Nigerian Stowaway Found Dead in Arik Air’s Undercarriage

The dead body of a young Nigerian man was discovered Friday in the wheel well, the undercarriage compartment of an Arik Air aircraft, after it returned from a flight to New York, United States.

According to the airline’s officials, the deceased might have hidden himself in the wheel well for days and was crushed to death while the flight was airborne to the JF Kennedy Airport, New York, from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

It was revealed that the dead body was found during a check on the aircraft panel as it was being prepared for another flight and that the undercarriage compartment of the Airbus A340-500 is big enough to accommodate a person, besides the space for the tyres.

"He probably might have hidden himself there some days and died while the aircraft was on its way to New York. We found him when we were doing checks on the panel; the aircraft probably came back with him dead," the official said.

What prompted you into singing?

I love music and I wanted to do my own thing,to contribute my own music.

You got monstrous negative response to both singles. How did feel with all the attacks?

I listened to my songs over and over again and I told myself I  did well. In all I see only the positivity in it, I made History. Peoples opinion of how my music was has further strengthened my belief that dreams die when you let the next mans opinion get to you and I am using now to pass a message to everyone out there,if you can just do it. Don't let anyone's opinion kill whatever dream you have or try to stop you from taking the next step.

You tweeted that you were not giving up. Does that mean you will become actively involved in music?

I love my acting career and I don't see myself jumping into full time music. I am however shooting the musical video of my songs,I will not let the hating stop me.

Update: Governor Suntai Survived Air crash, in Critical Condition - State Secretary

According to Saharareporters,the secretary to the Taraba State government has said that Governor Dambaba Suntai of Taraba State was one of the survivors of an air crash at the Yola Airport in Adamawa State. Our earlier report  named the governor as one of the dead passengers in the small plane that was being piloted by Mr. Suntai at the time of the crash.

The secretary to the government of Taraba State confirmed that the governor survived the crash, but was in critical condition. The Secretary stated that the injured governor had been conveyed to a hospital in Yola.

Two of Mr. Suntai’s aides died when the plane crashed, SaharaReporters learnt. An eyewitness said there were five passengers in the small plane at the time of the accident. Mr. Suntai was piloting.

Eyewitnesses at the scene had earlier told Saharareporters that two persons survived the plane crash.

Taraba State Governor, Dambaba Suntai Dies in Aircrash

The Governor of Taraba State, Dambaba Suntai has died in an aircrash at the Yola airport in Adamawa state. 

The governor died in a small plane piloted by him. His remains at the crash site as at the time of breaking this news. Eyewitnesses on  the scene said 2 people survived the plane crash.

So sad... may he rest peacefully.

Kanye reportedly proposed to the reality star over the weekend, but since Kim is not divorced from Kris yet, and can’t legally get engaged, Kanye allegedly told Kim to wear the ring on her pinky finger until her divorce is finalized. 

Once her divorce is finalized, Kanye will reportedly resize the ring to fit her correct finger. An earlier report suggests that Kim and Kanye are planning a $20 million wedding that will include three dresses for Kim, a performance by Celine Dion or Beyonce, and a wedding planner that will cost $500,000!

Sean 'Diddy' Combs Involved in Nasty Beverly Hills Car Crash

P. Diddy was reportedly involved in a nasty car accident Wednesday afternoon on Sunset Boulevard when a Lexus sedan crashed into his chauffeur-driven Cadillac Escalade.

The 42-year-old was so shaken by the crash that he was seen lying down on the grass beside his luxury vehicle which was left crushed and undriveable. The windscreen was smashed and the front of the car caved in. The airbags were activated and parts of the vehicle littered the ground.

He was accompanied by record label boss Andre Hurrell, who helped him to his feet.  Despite complaining of unspecified pain Diddy refused to go in an ambulance, and told authorities he would 'seek his own medical attention.

Dangote, Elumelu Nominated for Forbes Africa Person of the Year 2012

Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, and former Managing Director, United Bank for Africa Plc, Mr. Tony Elumelu, have been selected along with three other individuals for the 2012 edition of the Forbes Africa Person of the year award.

The other persons are Dr. James Mwangi, Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director, Equity Bank Limited, Kenya; Joyce Banda, President of Malawi and Stephen Saad, Co-founder, Aspen Pharmacare.

According to a statement by Forbes Africa, Dangote, Elumelu and the others were nominated by its readers because of their impact on African business in the past year.

Jessica Simpson's Parents File for Divorce after 34 years of Marriage

After 34 years of marriage, Tina and Joe Simpson, parents to pop stars Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, have decided to call it quits.

Their statement to PEOPLE magazine came the same day that buzz built around a story in the National Enquirer reporting that Joe has announced he's gay. 

"It is an amicable split and there is no third party involved," says the rep. "Any other related allegations are completely false. The family appreciates your respect for their privacy at this time." 

Tina, 52, and 54-year-old Joe – a manager and former minister who is often referred to as "Papa Joe" – are also parents to Ashlee Simpson and have two grandchildren between their daughters. 

None of the Simpsons have spoken out further about the split – or the rumors.

'The meat of the message ran: 'If Barack Obama opens up and gives his college records and applications and if he gives his passport applications and records, I will give to a charity of his choice - inner-city kids in Chicago, American Cancer Society, AIDS research, anything he wants - a cheque, immmediately, for $5million.'

 Appearing on the magazine's cover, the newlyweds open up for the first time about their special day and share exclusive photos in the brand-new issue of PEOPLE.

The couple of five years exchanged personal vows in a romantic Italian ceremony on Oct. 19, "it was a really special evening," Timberlake, 31, "It was a total fantasy experience," adds Biel, 30. 

One cause for emotion? The singer-actor played the guitar and serenaded his beautiful bride-to-be as she walked down the aisle in a custom, petal pink Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown. 

"It was an original piece I wrote specifically for the evening and for her," says Timberlake, who wore a Tom Ford tux he helped design. 

The pair welcomed 100 guests, including close friends Jimmy Fallon, Andy Samberg, Timbaland and Biel's 7th Heaven costar Beverley Mitchell, to the Borgo Egnazia resort in southern Italy for a week-long wedding celebration. 

"It was a lot to ask of them to travel, so we figured we'd give our guests a good party!" says Timberlake.
