Giant 'Mermaid' Sculpture surfaces in Alster Lake, Germany

Meet not-so-Little Mermaid that got everyone all over the world talking.

According to reports, lady in the lake also known as 'The Bather' is designed by Oliver Voss, head of the advertising academy Miami Ad School.

The enormous sculpture, made from steel and styrofoam, does not resemble a traditional mermaid. Instead of a woman with a fishtail, Voss's lady of the lake has legs bent at the knee and protruding from the water.

'Hamburg and the water belong together. People live by, and from the water says Voss.

He further explained; 'My team and I wanted to demostrate this relationship in a fun and entertaining way. We also hope she will encourage more people to rediscover and experience our city by the water - after all, if the Innner Alster is living room of Hamburg, of course someone should make themselves comfortable in it!'

The three-piece work of art, which is 13ft high and 98ft long, will be turning heads for the next ten days.
