Lagos State Government Donates N4.5m to Actress, Ngozi Nwosu For Her Treatment

The actress has been battling with kidney and liver failure for a while now and needed N6million for treatment abroad. She raised N2million with the help of Nigerians.

Just this evening, Lagos State Governor Raji Fashola on behalf of the Lagos State Government donated the sum of N4.5m to complete the money needed for Nwosu’s operation.

God bless everyone who donated, all we can do is pray for a successful treatment.

Lagos State Government Commences Demolition of Makoko Slum

Government officials on Monday began demolishing a large waterfront slum in the economic capital Lagos, a move that could leave tens of thousands of people homeless.

The Makoko settlement consists of rows of shanties perched on stilts in the lagoon of Lagos, one of the world’s largest cities with an estimated population of roughly 15 million.

The Lagos state government on July 12 warned Makoko residents that “their unwholesome structures on the waterfront” amounted to an “environmental nuisance”, in a letter seen by AFP.

“Notice is hereby given to you to vacate and remove all illegal developments along the Makoko/Iwaya Waterfront within 72 hours,” said the letter from the Lagos state ministry of waterfront, infrastructure and development.

Community leaders said that the demolition had begun.

Afrobeat Legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti's House Turns to a Museum

Its been revealed that home of the Late Afrobeat Legend, Olufela Anikulapo–Kuti, at 18, Gbemisola Street, Ikeja, Lagos will be converted into The Kalakuta Museum. 

The aim of this project which is currently financed by the Lagos state government following a proposal by the Kutis, is to preserve Fela’s history, promote tourism in Lagos State which will serve as an educational, historical and cultural institution on Fela’s music and music of African origin.

The Kalakuta Museum when completed will have an exhibition area, a coffee shop, five-room boutique hotel, roof-top restaurant and a souvenir shop. It will also have a bar and stage, passenger lift, the tomb where the remains of the Abami Eda are buried and the car park.

It will be declared open on October, to coincide with the 2012 edition of Felabration.

Fashola Recalls all Sacked Doctors

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has today recalled the 788 doctors sacked by his administration earlier this month.

The government’s decision to recall the sacked doctors was disclosed by Hakeem Bello, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola.

Mr. Bello said the decision to recall the doctors followed several pleas from the national and state leaders of the Action Congress Party (ACN), traditional leaders in the state and other concerned leaders in the country.

Shocking! Governor Fashola Sacks 788 Doctors, Employs 373

On Monday, the Lagos State Government sacked 788 doctors over their strike and also failing to reply the three letters of query and a letter of summons asking them to appear before the personnel management board on April 24.

The termination letter read thus; 

“This is to inform you that the Personnel Management Board ( Disciplinary Committee) which held between Tuesday 24th and Thursday 25th April 2012, has established a case of misconduct and absence from duty without leave or reasonable case between Wednesday 11th and Friday 13th April 2012 against you. You are also guilty of insubordination for failing to respond to lawful queries issued to you. The committee therefore recommends your dismissal from service. In accordance with the provision of the civil service rule NOS/04502/04507/04508, the board has approved your dismissal. I, thereby convey your “DISMISSAL” from Lagos State service effective from Friday, 4th, 2012. By this letter, you are hereby advised to hand over all government properties in your possession to the office of the Chief Medical Director immediately.”

Moving on, the state government is already inducting 373 doctors that will resume this week.

In order to ensure that the healthcare delivery service of the state continues to function for the benefit of the people, the state government has also placed advertisement in some national dailies seeking applications from suitably qualified medical doctors and consultants/specialists desirous of working with the government.
