Its been revealed that home of the Late Afrobeat Legend, Olufela Anikulapo–Kuti, at 18, Gbemisola Street, Ikeja, Lagos will be converted into The Kalakuta Museum.
The aim of this project which is currently financed by the Lagos state government following a proposal by the Kutis, is to preserve Fela’s history, promote tourism in Lagos State which will serve as an educational, historical and cultural institution on Fela’s music and music of African origin.
The Kalakuta Museum when completed will have an exhibition area, a coffee shop, five-room boutique hotel, roof-top restaurant and a souvenir shop. It will also have a bar and stage, passenger lift, the tomb where the remains of the Abami Eda are buried and the car park.
It will be declared open on October, to coincide with the 2012 edition of Felabration.
