Rapper, Fat Joe Sentenced To Four Months In Federal Prison For Tax Evasion

The rapper and entrepreneur was today sentenced to four months in Federal prison for not paying his taxes on nearly $3 million in income between 2007 - 2010 totaling a tax loss of $718,038.

Apart from the sentence he also paid a $15,000 fine and got one year of supervised release after his time.

The platinum-selling rapper, whose real name is Joseph Cartagena, apologized to his family, friends and fans before U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy Waldor handed down the sentence.

Cartagena, 42, admitted last December that he stiffed the government and later blamed his problems on “fancy guys in bow ties” who were supposed to keep watch over his finances. However, he took responsibility and said he would pay back what he owed.

Fat Joe is the latest hip-hop star to be sentenced for tax evasion. Ja Rule received 28 months behind bars, while Lauryn Hill was sentenced to three months.

Why can't these artists just pay their taxes on time, they get sentenced and even pay more than they are supposed to at the end.
