Lagos State Government Releases New Penalties for Traffic Offenders


The Lagos State House of Assembly have passed a bill to regulate road usage in the state. The bill which is aimed at regulating vehicle movement and placing strict sanctions on any vehicle that disobeys the law.

So if you are One-way driving the penalty is a 3year jail term after psychiatric examination... check out other penalties below....

2. Riding a motor-cycle against traffic and Riding on the kerb, median or road setbacks - 1st time offender – N20,000.00 subsequent offender N30,000.00 or the riders motor-cycle will be impounded.
3. Smoking while driving - N20,000.00 fine
4. Failure to give way to traffic on the left at a roundabout - N20,000.00 fine

5. Disobeying traffic control - N20,000.00


6. Violation of route by commercial vehicles - N20, 000.00 fine.

7. Riding motor-cycle without crash helmet for rider and passenger - N20, 000: 00 or 3years imprisonment or both.

8. Under aged person, under 18yrs old riding a motorcycle - N20,000.00.

9. Driving without valid driver’s license. - Vehicle to be impounded.
10. Learner Driver without permit.
11. (Penalty) N20,000.00.

12. Driving with fake number plate - 1st offender N20,000.00 and 6 month imprisonment or both.
