Ambassador Segun Olusola, Creator Of "Village Headmaster", Dies At 77
The television playwright, seasoned broadcaster, diplomat
and founder of African refugees died yesterday after a brief illness.
The former ambassador to Ethiopia was producer
and director of the epic programme Village Headmaster. It was one of most
popular television sitcoms in the 70s and early 80s that ran for over a decade
before it was taken off the air. And not too long ago, his footages at
public forums were still being shown on national TV across the country.
Mr. Olusola is survived by his wife, Beatrice Fehintola Olusola, his children – Ms. Aderonke Ajibulu-Moniya, Mr. Jimi Olusola III, Ms. Toyin Laditi, Mr. Sabitu Olusola, Ms. Toyin Adejumo, Mr. Samuel Olusola – and his immediate younger sister, Mrs. Biodun Kehinde.
May his soul rest in perfect peace (AMEN).

United States Labels Three Boko Haram Leaders as Foreign Terrorists
The United States today formally named three alleged leaders of the Nigerian militant group Boko Haram as "foreign terrorists", the first time it has blacklisted members of the Islamist group blamed for attacks across Africa's most populous nation.
According to a statement issued by the US Department of State on Thursday, “Abubakar Shekau, Abubakar Adam Kambar, and Khalid al-Barnawi were named ‘Specially Designated Global Terrorists’ under Section 1(b) of Executive Order 13224.
Shekau is the most visible leader of Boko Haram, based in northern Nigeria, Khalid al-Barnawi and Abubakar Adam Kambar have ties to Boko Haram and have close links to al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.”
Abubakar Shekau has appeared in a number of videos posted on the internet and social media to affirm the groups demands and claiming responsibility for series of violent attacks.

Kolo Toure got married to long-time fiancée and mother of his two children Chimène Akassou on Thursday in the Ivory Coast commercial capital Abidjan.
The Wedding took place at a mosque with his younger brother Yaya Toure as his best man, and will continue on Saturday where the couple will sign their marriage documents at a registry.
The 2 love birds have since been living together in England from 2003 when Toure got a spot in English side, Arsenal FC.

• 63 officials from the Ministries of Environment, Foreign Affairs, National Planning and
Petroleum Resources.
The junket will continue for Mr. Jonathan next week Thursday when he will be in Brussels for the World Customs Conference, scheduled for June 28-30. He will be taking with him about 57 people, including 26 aides, 3 Ministers, 8 members of the National Assembly, and 20 other government officials.
From June 25 to 29, Mrs. Jonathan will be in Maryland, United States, accompanied by 36 people: 18 aides, 4 wives of Governors, and 14 friends and associates.
Okay... I know it is important to take along delegates on trips, but what I don't get is the number. Abeg I need explanation of each person's duty.

Bauchi Suicide Bomber Blows up Self
A male suicide bomber was on Tuesday ripped apart by his own explosive device in Bauchi, after travelling by public transport for more than 393 km with the device from Yola , Adamawa state.
The bomber, now in critical condition at the Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, and closely monitored by security agents travelled in a commercial bus to Bauchi, concealing the bomb in his backpack.
Luck ran out on the bomber when he carelessly dropped the bag on the floor to urinate in a corner. The device subsequently detonated, dismembering his lower limb and an fingers.
Shortly after the incident, while conscious and in pains, the bomber told onlookers - including police officers who had come to arrest him - that he was part of a larger cell of the terrorist Boko Haram sect who are infiltrating the city to carry out an assignment in “God’s name.”
He said his colleagues were on their way to the city from other towns.

Outrage Over President Goodluck Jonathan’s Trip to Brazil
The news that President Goodluck Jonathan jetted out of the country amidst violence in Kaduna and Yobe states provoked public outrage on Tuesday.
Jonathan on Monday travelled to Brazil to take part in a United Nations’ Earth Summit, leaving behind killings in Kaduna and Yobe. Opposition parties and other eminent citizens have described the trip as disappointing.
The House of Representatives said the President could have delegated the trip to Vice-President Namadi Sambo or any of his senior aides since the trip was “not special or of economic interest.”
The spokesman for the House, Zakari Mohammed said “A trip like that could have been delegated by Mr. President so that he can stay at home to take charge of security.
“We know that security agencies are supposed to do their job, but we cannot afford to compromise security. If our security is compromised, it is a failure of governance.” Mohammed added that investors would not come to Nigeria if the country was not safe.
The Action Congress of Nigeria, also aired their disappointment in a statement by his National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who faulted Jonathan’s journey amidst what it described as a “national tragedy.”

Hosni Mubarak “Clinically Dead” After Suffering Stroke in Prison
Hosni Mubarak, Egypt's former ruler of 30 years is close to death after suffering a stroke in prison.
The country’s state news agency declared him “clinically dead” at 84 years old after attempts to revive him failed.
However, Mubarak's present state as 'clinically' dead is not yet final, as doctors have yet to pronounce that he is actually dead. Various reports claim that Mubarak is unconscious and is on a respirator.

Italian Fraudster Commits Suicide in EFCC Custody

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the death of a 52 year old Italian, Mr. Mauro Zanin, who died in the bathroom of the Commission’s detention facility in Abuja, early Tuesday morning.
A statement by the EFCC’s spokesperson Wilson Uwujarena, stated that the Mr Zanin who was arrested for fraudulently obtaining the sum of $111,000 from Gladwaters Nigeria Limited, passed away, two days before he was scheduled to appear in court.
According to the statement, the Italian was “found motionless in the bathroom of the Commission’s detention facility in Abuja at about 4.50 am on June 19, 2012”, adding that “he had apparently committed suicide using his bed sheet.”
“Zanin took his own life a day to his scheduled arraignment. He was supposed to be arraigned before the Federal High Court (5) in Abuja on Wednesday, June 20, 2012.”
All effort by the duty officers and a team of EFCC medical personnel led by Dr. Gideon Osi of the Commission’s Medical Unit to revive him with cardiopulmonary resuscitation proved futile and he was subsequently certified dead at about 5.45 am.
Though all clues point to suicide, the incident has been reported to the Nigeria Police Station, Maitama for investigation.
The deceased was arrested by Officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service following a complaint by one Ahamefula Chibuzor Ewuzie that he fraudulently obtained the sum of $111,000 from Gladwaters Nigeria Limited.
