Bomb Blast Hits Police Headquarters in Borno, Kills Several

A bomb blast has been reported at the entrance of the headquarters of the Borno State Police Command in Maiduguri.


The suicide bomber drove a car to the gate of the police command opposite Government Secondary School along Damaturu Road in Maduguri and detonated a bomb.


Four policemen at the gate of the command headquarters as well as the suicide bomber were killed instantly.

A police officer at the scene said five police vans had been loaded with the dead.

"Many people, mostly members of the police, which include men and women, were killed in the explosion," said a witness, Ali Alhaji, in the city of Maiduguri, the focal point of an insurgency by the Islamist sect Boko Haram.

According to the so called Yusifiyya Movement, also known as Boko Haram, said it attacked the United Nations (UN) building in Abuja because United States and the United Nations  are supporting the Federal Government to  persecute Muslims  in  Nigeria.

Speaking for the group, Abu Kakah, states the sect considered the US, the UN and the Nigerian government as common enemies and  would continue to attack them because they are infringing on the rights of the Muslims.

He accused the Federal Government of insincerity in dialoguing with Boko Haram, saying the only condition they would accept to talk  with government was unconditional release of all their members whom, he said, are in prisons all over the country.

Massive Explosion Hits UN Building, Abuja!

A devastating explosion rocked the United Nations Building in the Central Area of Abuja on Friday morning killing a number of people, leaving others trapped and causing heavy damage.

Eyewitnesses said the explosion was caused by a suicide bomber who rammed a car loaded with explosives into the building having driven past the security barriers. 

 

Rescue workers, security operatives  moved in promptly to evacuate the building.

The explosion is believed to have been perpetrated by the Boko Haram Islamic sect.  Suspected members of the sect had on Thursday hit police stations in Adamawa and Borno States before proceeding to rob banks in those states.
